The work and the joy, carried together

Both pastors are bi-vocational. Just as the apostle Paul made tents to support himself while preaching the gospel, each of them earns a living through his own work. Everything given to the church goes to worship, to our neighbors, and to the kingdom of God.

Pastor Kidae Nam

I met God personally in middle school, and out of gratitude for that grace I gave my life to serving Him as a pastor.

What I hope for most is that each person here would live as light in the world, showing the love and truth of Jesus Christ in ordinary days. I want to give myself through the Word, prayer, and love so that they can carry that light well.

I long for us to be a healthy community that carries hope into the world, walking humbly together for the glory of God's kingdom — and I hope to be a faithful fellow worker who bears good fruit right where life is lived.

He and his wife Kelly Kim have three daughters: Chloe, Taylor, and Hailey.

Pastor Steve Chang

My family immigrated to San Diego in 1992. Life in a new country was hard on us, financially and emotionally, and for a long stretch I lost my way. It was in the middle of that wandering that I met Jesus. Serving in my church's college group and with a campus ministry, I slowly came to know the One who had taken hold of me.

I worked for several years, wrestling the whole time with what my life was for. At the end of that wrestling came God's call. I moved to Dallas and started seminary. In a pastoral ministry class, a professor said the most valuable thing a seminary graduate can do is plant a church, and that stayed with me. In 2011 I planted Dallas Bible Church, and in 2013 I became senior pastor of Frisco One Way Church, formed when it merged with Frisco Covenant Church.

Looking back, every step of this road was grace. It received me worn out, exactly as I was, and carried me here. My hope is that Naru Church becomes a place where someone else meets that same grace. I am still on that road myself, and I would love for us to walk it together.

He and his wife Yeibon Chang have twin sons: Hasung and Hajin.
